Ueno Toshogu Shrine is a historical Shinto shrine in Tokyo, located inside Ueno Park. It is a prime example of Edo-period (1600-1867) shrine architecture. Founded in the early 17th century, it is one of Japan's Toshogu shrines which are affiliated with the Tokugawa clan that ruled Japan from the early 17th century. Because admission is free for parts of the shrine, it is a great place to stop by if you are visiting Ueno Park, Ueno Zoo or any of the museums in the area. You can also pray for good fortune at the shrine or buy one of the omamori amulets.
