From atop the Uzushio Kanchosen Whirlpool Sightseeing Boats of Naruto City, passengers can observe the force of the whirling tides firsthand. These tidal whirlpools are created by the tidal variations of the Seto Inland Sea and the Kii Channel, and they are said to be the largest in the world, reaching up to 20 meters (65 feet) in diameter during maximum tides.
There are two types of sightseeing boats available: the Wonder Naruto, a large boat from which passengers can leisurely watch the whirlpools; and the Aqua Eddy, on which there is an underwater observatory room below decks for viewing the whirlpools. The tidal whirlpools can be observed from close range from either type of boat, so whichever you choose, the experience is sure to not disappoint.
Advance reservations are required for the Aqua Eddy, and seats often fill up when low or high tide is approaching, so it’s a good idea to make reservations early. The most impressive whirlpools can only be seen at certain times of the day, so please make sure to check the official website ahead of time.
