Offering a rare experience, Aoni Onsen in Aomori prefecture is something of a gateway to the past. Popularly called Lamp no Yado, the lamp inn, it has been isolated from society since its founding a century ago. With no cellphone coverage, no outlets for your electrical devices, and no wifi, you will finally be able to turn off your phone. A traditional Japanese ryokan, you can expect four baths, three segregated indoor baths and one mixed bathing outdoor bath (konyoku). Surrounded by forest and fully exposed to starlight, Aoni Onsen truly begins to shine after dusk, when hundreds of lamps around the ryokan are lit up with a soft glow. Truly a unique experience, Aoni Onsen gives visitors a chance to take a moment and just let time pass them by, shaking off the stresses of modern life.
