Gappo Koen Park

Beautiful Scenery Outdoor Activities

Gappo Koen Park is a park that was selected as one of Japan's 100 Best City Parks in 1989. The park has around 670 cherry blossom trees such as the Yoshino cherry and weeping cherry, which typically bloom from late April to early May, and inform their surroundings of the arrival of spring. In early summer, the wisteria trellises are beautiful, and in summer the swimming beach becomes a rest spot for city residents.

Additionally, Gappo Koen Park has many pine trees and stone monuments, including the "Five Pines of Namiuchi" which exemplify the park. They are a row of pine trees planted to commemorate the triumphant return after the First Sino-Japanese War. There are 31 stone monuments, haiku-inscribed monuments, and busts including those of poets Takuboku Ishikawa and Matsuo Basho scattered throughout. The park is also equipped with a municipal baseball field and tennis court, a tearoom called Gappotei, an outdoor stage, and a multipurpose hall. Come visit Gappo Koen Park, where you can enjoy beautiful nature with a spacious beach and a Japanese garden that allow you to feel Japanese history and culture.
