Sukayu Onsen is a hot spring hotel that has been in use for over 300 years, and the wooden facilities give off a truly Japanese ambience. Particularly famous at Sukayu Onsen is a large bath made of Japanese cypress known as the Hiba Sennin Buro, or 1,000-person Cypress Bath. The bath was named so due to its size; its area is roughly as large as a tennis court and said to be spacious enough to accommodate 1,000 people at a time. Just under 300 square meters, the bath area has five individual baths, which include a hot bath, two cool baths, the “four-to-six-tenths" bath, and the “waterfall” bath. The water of each bath has its own unique effects and health benefits, so visitors should be sure to try them all. Visitors should note that Hiba Sennin Buro is a mixed-gender bath, but there are bathing robes available at the facility’s store for women to use while soaking if they like. There are also additional separate baths for men and women as well as a café within the facility, so anyone and everyone can relax and enjoy their time spent here. Sukayu Onsen also offers guided tours of the surroundings, a great option for guests who have some extra time and want to explore the local area.
