Hinomaru Jozo Sake Brewery

Art & Architecture Culture Experience Food & Drink History

The Hinomaru Jozo Sake Brewery is a historical brewery that was established in 1689 in Masuda-machi, Akita prefecture.  Designated as National Tangible Cultural Properties, the houses that line the streets of Masuda-machi are equipped with luxurious internal despositories; as a result, Masuda-machi is often called "Kura no machi," or "Cellar Town."  Hinomaru Jozo Sake Brewery itself is also endowed with one of these profound historical depostiories.
At public brewery observations, visitors will have the opportunity to experience not just sake brewing, but also tour the warehouse itself and enjoy samples of sake and sweet half-sake at sales stands.  While enjoying the history of Masuda-machi, you'll also find the brewery's main brand "Mansaku no hana" available, as well as "Hi no maru," which has been passed down from the time the brewery was first established.  Don't miss the chance to try this delicious sake representative of Akita!
