The Yokote Masuda Manga Museum located in Yokote City, Akita Prefecture, is the first true manga-themed art museum in Japan, containing over 220,000 original pieces of work from 179 manga artists. The museum is not just artwork displays, however; the establishment is also home to the “famous-quote road,” of which the walls are lined with well-known quotes from manga in speech bubbles, as well as an area where visitors can learn about the history of manga, providing something to enjoy for both kids and adults. Additionally, if a visitor finds a piece in the exhibition of original artwork that piques their interest, they can read that manga in the museum’s library.
