Konpira Grand Theatre

Culture Experience Entertainment Insta-worthy

Built in 1835, this is the oldest surviving playhouse in Japan. The main attraction here is undoubtedly the Kabuki performances. Its unique furnishings such as the Kakesuji, which allows the actors to perform aerial stunts, and the bamboo grapevine trellises that form a lattice on the ceiling make this a living example of a historical playhouse. Even more astonishingly, all of the equipment located beneath the stage is actually operated by manpower!
