Shikoku Aquarium is a next-generation facility that opened in 2020 in Utazu, a seaside town in Kagawa Prefecture. The facility has adopted "Waterscapes of Shikoku" as its theme, and it boasts a variety of charming displays that can only be offered at an aquarium surrounded by the ocean. For example, visitors can see a re-creation of what is considered one of the top three tides in the world, the whirling tides of the Seto Inland Sea; a massive tank with migratory fish that are native to the Kuroshio Current, the largest warm current in the world; precious creatures than can only be found in extremely clean aquatic environments; and much more. In addition, all of the displays are equipped with the latest technology. One particular allure of this aquarium is the production space inside the building at which, depending on the time and season, the lighting and scents change, allowing visitors to experience a different atmosphere each time they visit.
Additionally, there are a number of shows and events that visitors should make sure not to miss. For example, Dolphin Playing Time is a show at which visitors can watch dolphins perform a number of tricks while listening to commentary from the trainers. At Animal Feeding Time, visitors can see creatures in a different situation from usual and enjoy talks full of affection for the animals from the caretakers. Be sure to check the event schedule ahead of time so as to not miss out on the fun.
