Mt. Sarakurayama is arguably the most popular place to enjoy nighttime scenery in Kitakyushu City. Accessible by cable car or slope car, the summit has an elevation of 622 meters, and the observation deck there offers an unbroken view of the city. The scenery that spreads out below is known as a “10-billion-dollar nightscape,” and it is also recognized as one of Japan's New Top Three Nightscapes. Not only that, but in April 2015 the summit and nightscape of Mt. Sarakurayama were established as sacred places for lovers.
The Sky Dome, also located at the summit, is illuminated on weekends, and it has become a popular date spot for couples. From the restaurant in the observation deck, visitors can gaze out at a 200-degree panoramic view while they eat, a uniquely exciting experience. While a lot of people use the cable car to sightsee on Mt. Sarakurayama, there are also hiking trails available, so locals and visitors alike can casually enjoy climbing the mountain.

*There are no parking facilities at the summit, and it is closed to vehicles. Make sure to check the timetable for the cable cars before your trip (it takes about 90 minutes to walk to the summit).
