Senpiro no Taki Waterfall is one of the waterfalls representative of Yakushima Island. Located just in front of the waterfall is a giant rock supposedly as big as about 1,000 tatami mats, which is how the waterfall came to be called Senpiro no Taki ("sen" means "thousand" in Japanese). A shape of a V is cut into the center of the granite, and from it a large amount of water flows down and drops about 60 meters. Yakushima Island is known for its heavy precipitation throughout the year, and when it rains the river that leads to the waterfall rises, leading to an even more forceful current. Additionally, a little ways away is an observation deck that offers a beautiful view of the waterfall.
