A natural recreation forest located upstream of the Shiratanigawa River which flows through the northeastern part of Yakushima Island, Shiratani Unsuikyo Gorge is home to huge yakusugi cedar trees which has made it a popular sightseeing destination. Here, visitors can experience the beauty of nature, such as mountain streams, deep forests covered with moss, and kugurisugi cedar that have holes big enough to pass through left by the decay of roots. Several hiking trails are available, so visitors can feel free to explore the forest according to their mood and physical condition of the day.
