Aquarium Asamushi

Entertainment

Aquarium Asamushi is the northernmost aquarium in Honshu, the main island of Japan. A wide variety of marine life inhabits this aquarium, coming in at a total of 10,000 animals of around 300 species, including creatures native to Aomori Prefecture. While visiting, make sure not to miss the 15-meter-long tunnel tank that recreates the sea at Mutsu Bay. Here, visitors can observe from close up all sorts of sea creatures that live in the Mutsu Bay as well as the cultivation of scallops and ascidians. Also popular are the dolphin performances that are held all year long at the indoor pool. At these performances, dolphins execute jumps and tricks to music composed of traditional Tsugaru shaminsen and nebuta hayashi sounds, creating a show unique to Aomori. Visitors can also see penguins, seals, and other animals swimming about in the Marine Mammal Hall, and they can even have a chance to interact with sea life firsthand at the popular Touching Zone.
