Tanaka Isson Memorial Museum

Art & Architecture History

The Tanaka Isson Memorial Museum is an art museum adjacent to Amami Park. Here, a collection of works by Japanese artist Tanaka Isson, who specialized in depicting the nature of Amami, are on permanent display. The beauty of the structure itself is a point to be sure not to miss: created in the image of Amami no Takakura, the exhibition room looks like it's floating on water when viewed from the outside. Inside the exhibition room are about 80 pieces of Isson's works; visitors can immerse themselves in Isson's view of the world through his depictions of the tropical plants and animals that inhabit Amami drawn with a unique touch. After indulging in Isson's works, take a moment to climb the observation deck at Amami Park and experience the beauty of Amami's scenery firsthand.
