Inside a forested park in Amami is Materiya no Taki Waterfall. The waterfall is surrounded by deep forest, and long ago people called the sight of the sun hitting the waterfall "where the sun falls really beautifully." Over time, the local accent of the Japanese language has changed, leading the falls to be pronounced Materiya no Taki. Travelers also used to use this area for resting, and the sparkling light of the waterfall made it known as a place that offers tranquility. Even now, at midday that sun shines down from directly above and visitors can see the falls shining an emerald green. The surroundings are still and silent, so all that can be heard is the sound of flowing water, making it a great place to relax and become one with nature.
