Tottori Castle was the site of a famous battle in the Warring States period (a period from the late 1400’s to the 1500's when wars occurred frequently). It has been designated as a Japan National Historic Site, with the stone walls and broad moats, in addition to the Tenshudai (a raised foundation block upon which the top of the castle was constructed) remaining as vestiges; while the old castle gate has been restored. The neighborhood around the Tottori Castle is maintained as the Hisamatsu Park, which has become a place for Tottori citizens to relax. The castle is also quite famous as a cherry blossom spot in the spring when about 240 cherry trees are in full bloom!
