Sannai Maruyama Site

Art & Architecture History

The Sannai Maruyama site is a famous historic ruin in Aomori Prefecture that has been known since the Edo period. In 1992, ruins were uncovered dating back to a large settlement of the early to mid Jomon period (c. 5500 to 4000 BCE). In November 2000 it was designated as a special national historic landmark. In the adjacent Jomon period recreation hall, there is an exhibition of excavated archaeological remains alongside an experiential learning corner.
