Higashihennazaki

Beautiful Scenery

Higashihennazaki is a cape of about two kilometers that protrudes out into the sea at the easternmost tip of Miyako Island. It's known for its scenery and has been designated as one of Japan's Top 100 Urban Parks and also as a National Historic Landmark and Scenic Natural Monument. In the Okinawan dialect, "higashi" (east) is "agari," leading to this cape also being called Agarihennazaki. Over 200 kinds of plants grow en masse here, and the pure white of the blooming Easter lilies in spring is famous. From the lighthouse at the tip of the cape, a 360-degree view of the horizon over the water can be seen. There is a walking path along the coast from the parking lot to the lighthouse, so visitors can take a stroll and gaze out at the beautiful sea. At night, a sky full of stars can also be enjoyed.
