Ueno German Culture Village is a theme park located on Miyakojima Island, and just as its name would indicate, the park is all about German culture. It was built on a place where the people of Miyakojima Island aided a German shipwreck during the Meiji era, and at the park visitors can indulge in both German culture and Miyakojima's beautiful nature.
Within the park, the first thing to catch your eye will be the Museum of Philanthropy, which is a full-size restoration of the German Marksburg Castle. Inside, there are paintings and other works of art displayed in an exhibition room, an observation deck that offers a panoramic view of Miyakojima's beautiful sea, and a photo spot where visitors can dress up in the clothes of German aristocrats and take pictures.
The Kinder House has adopted the world of German fairytales as its theme, and here documents relating to and reprintings of Grimms' Fairy Tales can be found. There are also displays of German toys, a piece of the real Berlin Wall measuring in at a height of 3.6 meters and weight of 2.6 tons, along with documents and photos that depict what things looked like in the past.
The Seasky marine sightseeing boats offer visitors a chance to view the underwater world of Miyakojima's coral reefs and tropical fish habitats. Events are also held at the park, so there are plenty of attractions for small children and adults alike to enjoy.
