Kaiwomaru Park is the bay area that spreads out around Kaiwo Maru. Sometimes called the "lady of the sea," Kaiwo Maru is a sailing ship built as a training ship for a merchant-marine school, and in 2018 it was recognized as having historical and cultural value and certified as a "boat legacy."
Also within the park is an establishment known as the Japan Sea Center. Models of sailing boats from a variety of countries around the world as well as displays relating to the sea, ports, and boats can be found here, making it a popular base for information about the ocean. There are also a variety of themed culture classes available, allowing visitors to deepen their understanding and knowledge of the ocean.
Popular among families and groups is the nearby barbecue and picnic area as well as the Kaiwo Bird Park, where visitors can interact with wild birds. Surrounded by green lawn and a refreshing sea breeze, Kaiwomaru Park is the perfect place to immerse yourself in the beauty of Toyama's bay area.
*Note: In order to use the picnic area, advance application with the Japan Sea Center office is required (tel 0766-82-5181).
