Minsah Crafts Museum
Culture Experience
The Minsah Crafts Museum is a facility that includes information on the working process of minsah ori, displays of valuable works of art, and minsah ori textile workshops. Minsah ori is one of Okinawa's traditional textiles. Composed of four or five squares dyed in a kasuri pattern, minsah ori are used for many things, such as souvenirs, accessories, general goods, and building ornaments.
Within this establishment, there is a building with an archive library and shops as well as two workshop studios. On the second floor of the archive library, there is a display room where visitors can see dyeing and weaving documents, ingredients for minsah ori and dyes, works in the first stage of design as well as finished products, and the history of minsah ori. At the studio in this museum, visitors can choose an item that matches their time and budget and make coasters, centerpieces, tablecloths, and tapestries. The studios also offer observation experiences where the manufacturing process of minsah ori can be seen from start to completion. Anyone who loves crafts will surely enjoy learning about Okinawa's traditional crafts through the observations and workshops at the archive library and studios at the Minsah Crafts Museum.
