Mt. Fuji is not only the tallest mountain in Japan, but it is also considered sacred, and that in addition to its beautiful surroundings make it an extremely popular destination for thousands of worshippers and mountain-climbing enthusiasts every year. In 2013, Mt. Fuji was registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site due to its spiritual, artistic, and cultural value along with its majestic beauty. In fact, not just the mountain itself, but a total of 25 component properties including the surrounding shrines and mountain trails are also included in the World Heritage registration.
