Ashigara Rest Area (Tokyo-Bound)

Food & Drink Onsen(Hot Springs) Shopping

Ashigara SA (Tokyo bound) is a highway service area located at a great spot with a view of Mt. Fuji. The facility was renovated in 2010 as EXPASA with a characteristic design that transmits the warmth of trees. Inside the facility, there are restaurants, shopping areas for local foods and souvenir, and also resting areas with  hotel/bathing facilities. Rest Inn Toki No Sumika is a highway hotel that people can use without getting off the highway and guests can choose between Western style or Japanese style rooms.
There is also a bathing facility “Kintokiyu” and many other facilities such as coin laundry room and  massage spa. Bathing at Kintokiyu is available for day guests as well (670 JPY for adults. Hours 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m. the next day). People who did not ride on the highway can access this facility as well.

There is also a direct vegetable sales depot where you can purchase fresh products. Popular food here is Kaisen-don (seafood on rice) with Tuna, salmon, scallops, salmon eggs, and Suruga Bay whitebait. You can also pour broth on your don and make it into ochazuke (rice in Japanese broth) called “Kaisen Bukkake Gohan.” This menu is only available at EXPASA Ashigara SA (Tokyo bound). The best way to enjoy it is to start eating the don as it is first and then pour broth in it after you are half done with the bowl and have it as ochazuke.
(Stores differ slightly between the Tokyo bound and Aichi bound side facilities)
