Nanzoin Temple is a Buddhist temple in Fukuoka Prefecture famous for its huge reclining Buddha statue. At 135ft (41 meters) in lengths, 36ft (11 meters) in height and weighing 300 tons, the reclining Buddha at Nanzoin Temple is said to be the world’s biggest bronze statue. The different poses of Buddha statues have different meanings, and the reclining posture depicts Buddha at the moment of death, or entrance into nirvana. Nanzoin Temple is the first stop of the jorney on the 88 on the Sasaguri pilgrimage route.
