Culture Experience History Unesco World Heritage

The Shimbaru-Nuyama Mounded Tomb Group includes ancient graves of members of the Munakata clan. They worshipped across the ocean on the island of Okinoshima and initiated a religious tradition. The burial site is in the north of Fukuoka Prefecture and includes 41 kofun (tumulus). It was inscribed as a UNESCO world cultural heritage site in July, 2017.
