Nomiyama Kannon Temple

Art & Architecture Culture Experience History

Nomiyama Kannon Temple is one of the 88 Buddhist temples of the Sasaguri pilgrimage in Fukuoka Prefecture. The main object of worship is a statue of Kannon Bodhisattva, but it is shown only on special occasions. Visitors can experience a Goma fire ritual at the temple which belongs to the esoteric Shingon tradition. The temple is located at an elevation of 1476ft (450m), and the more than 1,000 maple trees surrounding the temple create an astonishing view. During the autumn months, bright colors cover the mountains at Sasaguri.
